DPW's HIGHWAY BUREAU (422-1201) paves, patches and repairs all of the 140 miles of city-owned roadways, and plows all local roads in White Plains, including roads owned by Westchester County* and Route 119 in White Plains.

This Bureau maintains the cleanliness of City streets and other City-owned public areas and parklands. In addition, it maintains and improves the municipal street lighting system and City-owned athletic fields and parks.

*About County-Owned Roads
There are over 17 miles of roads owned by Westchester County in White Plains. DPW does not maintain or repair these roads. For concerns regarding these roads, please call 995-4951. However, White Plains DPW does plow all of these streets. For snow related questions, call 422-1202.

SNOW STORM REGULATIONS
NO on-street car parking when it snows.
Parking cars on City streets impedes snow plowing efforts. When it snows, cars must be moved off the street or they may receive a summons.

Private Plows
If you or a private contractor are plowing your private driveway or parking lot, snow may NOT be pushed into or across the street. It must be plowed to the rear of your property.

Sidewalks/Crosswalks - Businesses and Families
When a storm ends at night, sidewalks must be clean by 10 am.
When a storm ends during daylight, sidewalks must be cleared within 2 hours for businesses and within 10 hours for single-family residences.

DPW PARKS MAINTENANCE
This subsection of the Highway Bureau takes care of the planting, maintenance and cleaning of all of our City parks, playing fields, recreation areas and flower beds. In addition, the City's DPW has responsibility for the design, construction and maintenance of all City owned parks facilities, e.g., swimming pools, fountains, ice rink, tennis courts and hiking trails.
