A Message from the Mayor:

Welcome!
Thanks for coming to our “Greening White Plains” website. Very soon, this Green Star page will reveal excellent greening ideas posted by our City’s youth, residents and business members. I invite you to share your tips, projects or programs with all of us by posting it here.

Each quarter, I will present Green Star Awards for the top idea, project, or program submitted to the City, as selected by the Mayor’s Green Technology Committee. Awards will be made in three separate categories -- Youth, Residents and Businesses -- and you will be able see the winning entries here at the Green Star.

Encouraging a City-wide dialogue about our environment is part of the commitment I made as one of the first to sign the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ “Climate Protection Agreement.” My signature dedicated our City to actions that reduce our global warming emissions and preserve and enhance our natural environment, and I signed with the belief that:

* Our commitment must be long term - for our children and for our future.

* Our commitment must be mutual - to succeed we must all work together.

* Our commitment must be broad - global warming affects many aspects of our lives and we must address it in every area.

As your Mayor, and as a life long resident of White Plains, I am very proud of what we have accomplished thus far, and I am pleased and heartened by the growing commitment of our City family. This website will further help us lead greener lives and protect our environment for generations yet to come.

In addition to the Green Star, four other sections of this website are targeted to different areas of our lives:

Greening the City surveys what our City has done and is doing to create a greener environment for all of us.

Greening Our Homes gives ideas and projects to make our homes greener places to live and provides links to many other helpful and informative websites.

Greening Our Businesses shows ways to make green living a part of everyone’s business life, and also provides links to many other helpful and informative websites.

Growing Up Green presents fun and educational projects which teach young people about Conserving Water, Climate Change, Recycling and Pollution.

I encourage you to explore and enjoy every section of this website. As our mascot, Mr. Greenie, loves to say -- we are all part of the problem, so let’s all be part of the solution together!signature
