Forestry
This subsection of the Highway and Grounds Bureau is responsible for the care of all of the 18,000 city-owned trees on public land and public rights of way.

The Important Role of Trees

Trees are an important element to our city. They help clean the air of carbon dioxide, they provide shady areas during hot summer months, and they play an important role in helping to retain the soil, which otherwise might get washed away during rain events.  Each year the city plants approximately 200 trees on City owned land and rights of ways.

The City of White Plains has been named Tree City USA each year since 1986!

If you have any questions regarding a city owned tree, please call Forestry at 422-1202.

The City of White Plains Department of Public Works is proud to partner with the White Plains Beautification Foundation on many projects throughout the City.
