Leaf Removal Options (October 17th - December 1st)
*Please note that up to October 17th, brush pick up will continue as noted on the Sanitation Calendar.

One of the joys of being a home or property owner in the fall is leaf removal.

White Plains offers several leaf removal options

Mulching in Place (Leafcycling)
Leaves are a valuable nutritional resource that many property owners let go to waste every fall. Mulching (shredding) your leaves in place is the best and simplest solution for your lawn;  it saves money, saves effort, keeps your property healthy and helps the planet.

The City of White Plains encourages you to Leafcycle!  It's earth friendly and good for your lawn.

Leafcycling is not an all-or-nothing proposition; you can gradually build it into your lawn care routine!

Containerized Leaf Removal (Fastest leaf pick up)
Leaves that begin to fall may be put into yard debris containers (labeled with a DPW "COMPOSTABLE" sticker) or in biodegradable paper bags (not in plastic bags.)  This will provide the fastest service as we pick these up, curbside, every 7-10 working days during leaf season.

Containerized leaf removal will continue throughout the month of December, weather permitting.

FREE "Compostable" stickers for dedicated compost containers are available upon request.
Call 422-1206.

40 gallon paper bags are available to White Plains residents at the Gedney Way Recycling Yard, located at 87 Gedney Way, in lots of ten, at a cost of $5 per lot (Checks only please.)  Smaller, 30-gallon bags are available at supermarkets and home & garden supply stores.

Loose Leaf Removal
Loose leaves are collected from the property side of the curb every 10-15 working days. Residents and landscapers are cautioned not to pile leaves in the street as they are dangerous to motorists, cyclists and children, and they clog vital storm drains in adverse weather.

Please remember to rake your leaves onto the property side of the curb and NOT into the street, where they interfere with storm water drainage, perhaps even causing localized flooding.  In addition, once we have a hard freeze and/or snow, if leaves are in the street, they will become a frozen mess and will impede our snow plowing operations.

Click (here) (during leaf season) to see a schedule of where City crews will be picking up loose leaves this week.

We must cease loose leaf collection December 1st, as the trucks and equipment need to be converted over to snow and ice removal mode.

Gedney Way Yard Drop-Off
Yard debris may be dropped off at the Gedney Way Yard, Monday thru Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Empty your grass clippings, leaves and lawn rakings in the designated areas.

:  FREE compost, mulch and logs are available to White Plains Residents to take home.

NOTE:  If you use a landscaping service to maintain your lawn, please encourage them to practice grasscycling.  The Gedney Way Yard accepts White Plains generated yard debris from commercial landscapers who have a permit.*

*Landscaper permit coupon books are sold at a cost of $750 for yard debris WITHOUT grass clippings.  This cost is increased to $1,500 for yard debris disposal that INCLUDES grass clippings.

Coupon books have (20) coupons and each coupon is good for (4) cubic yards of soft yard debris.
