TRAFFIC COMMISSION

The duties of the traffic commission are primarily:

•Submit to the mayor for consideration and forwarding to the appropriate city departments and agencies, specific proposals for amendment of ordinances, rules and regulations of the city and city agencies which affect traffic conditions in the city, and proposed legislation which the commission deems necessary or proper to implement and effectuate its proposals.

•Prepare and submit to the mayor, for consideration and forwarding to the common council, the planning board, the parking authority and to other appropriate agencies and departments of the city, recommendations and proposals in regard to the improvement of existing streets, street widening and the location of new streets, avenues and highways; the location and establishment of off-street public parking areas and garages; and of off-street loading and unloading and parking facilities; and other matters relating to traffic control.

The mayor appoints ten persons as members of the Traffic Commission, including the Commissioner of Public Safety, the Commissioner of Public Works, the Commissioner of Planning, the Commissioner of Traffic, the Chairman of the Capital Projects Board and the Corporation Counsel, ex officio, and a member of the White Plains Parking Authority designated by the Mayor.

The commission meets monthly on the third Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the City of White Plains common council chambers. Such stated meetings may be attended by any citizen who gives advance notice of intention to attend to present matters or suggestions for consideration of the commission, and further provided that such item is placed on the agenda of the commission for discussion at such meeting
