WHITE PLAINS 2011 BICYCLE SAFETY DAY

Mayor Thomas M. Roach and the White Plains Recreation & Parks Department in cooperation with the Jill E. Solomon Foundation will host a FREE Helmet Safety Program on Saturday, May 7. The Bicycle Safety Rally will be held at Delfino Park located on Lake St. from 10 am until noon. Exciting activities planned for the day include Helmet fitting, Bike inspections, Bicycle Safety Rodeo, giveaways, music and refreshments. There will be a Learn to Ride Program for children. You must bring your bike to participate.

CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL

April 26, 2011
Mayor Thomas M. Roach and the White Plains Recreation & Parks Department and The Japan Education Center invite you to celebrate spectacularly blooming cherry trees with a festival of Japanese culture. We will host an afternoon of traditional Japanese music, dance, song, storytelling, games and crafts. This free event will be held in Turnure Park located on Lake Street, off North Broadway on Sunday, May 1 from noon until 5:00 pm. Fresh Japanese food and beverages will be available for sale. This wonderful educational and entertaining afternoon is nestled among groves of new blooming Kwanzan Japanese cherry trees. This festival will also collect money for the Japan Disaster Relief Fund. DEA HOLDING SECOND NATIONWIDE PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY IN APRIL

April 26, 2011
This spring, the Drug Enforcement Administration and its national and community partners will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. On Saturday, April 30th, from Noon to 5 p.m. local time, DEA and its partners, the White Plains Cares Coalition and the White Plains Police Department, will hold a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day locally at the Sustain White Plains Festival in downtown White Plains, NY, at the intersection of Main Street and Mamaroneck Avenue. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

WP Police Accident Reports Are Now Available Online

April 19, 2011
Commissioner David E. Chong announced today that motor vehicle accident reports filed by the White Plains Police Department are now available online directly from a link at the City of White Plains website. The White Plains Department of Public Safety recently signed an agreement with PoliceReports.US, which allows citizens to download a copy of their accident report online.

Motorists and insurance companies can now download and print a copy of their accident report 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the comfort of their home or business using a secure online portal. Accident reports can be purchased on line for $6.00 using most major credit cards.

Copies of accident reports are still available at the White Plains Department of Public Safety, 77 So. Lexington Ave, White Plains, NY for those without internet access. The White Plains Department of Public Safety went live with this new system on April 18, 2011.

To get a copy of accident reports online, customers need to go to click on the "Accident Reports" link located under "Online Services" or they can go directly to Police Reports.US at http://whiteplainsny.policereports.us/

White Plains and Peekskill Youth Square Off on the Debate Floor

April 15, 2011
The Debate Teams of the White Plains Youth Bureau and the Peekskill Youth Bureau will square off against each other in the launching of the two Youth Bureau’s Debate Teams on Monday, April 25th, 6:30 p.m. at the White Plains Library. This is the first of two debates, the second to be held in Peekskill, on Tuesday, May 3rd.

The topic for the April 25th debate: “Is a Formal Education Relevant in a 21st Century Global Society?” The public is welcome to attend and enjoy the thrill and excitement of young people actively engaged in rigorous and stimulating intellectual conversation. CITY OF WHITE PLAINS SWEARS IN NEW MAYOR

April 14, 2011
Thomas M. Roach will be sworn in as the 18 Mayor of the City th of White Plains on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 6:30pm on the steps of City Hall, Municipal Building, 255 Main Street, White Plains, NY 10601. The ceremony will be followed by a short reception in the Rotunda.

During the week of April 18, 2011 Sanitation/Recycling will be operating on a HOLIDAY SCHEDULE Monday/Thursday pick up will now take place on Monday/Wednesday. Tuesday/Friday pick up will now take place on Tuesday/Thursday. There will be NO PAPER PICK UP on Wednesday of Good Friday week.

Mayor Thomas Roach invites you to join in the City of White Plains Recreation & Parks Senior Center “Earth Day Luncheon” on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm at the White Plains Recreation & Parks Senior Center, 65 Mitchell Place, White Plains. Join us for a delicious lunch and a fun afternoon as we recognize and honor the importance of sustaining our Earth’s resources. After lunch there will be a special unveiling ceremony of our new Bingo machine followed by free Bingo with prizes. Senior Center bus transportation is available. There is a $2.50 lunch contribution. White Plains Youth Bureau After School Connection –
George Washington School Children’s Art Show

Mayor Thomas Roach is very pleased to announce that the White Plains Youth Bureau’s After School Connection program at George Washington School will be holding a children’s art show opening on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 4:30 pm in the cafeteria at George Washington School, 100 Orchard St. in White Plains. This art show is a celebration of the City’s 60 or more public gardens and the White Plains Beautification Foundation which has played such a key role in creating and sustaining the beauty the gardens bring to our City. This event is also an early start on the City’s upcoming Earth Week celebration. Children of the After School Connection program will be displaying works of art inspired by each of the City’s public gardens. The public is invited to come join in this celebration and see the lovely art works created by the young people.
