Winston Churchill said :
“If you’re going through hell, keep going.” I don’t want to minimize what each of you are going through as we deal with this crisis. We are social creatures. Being deprived of the company of people you love, who’s company you enjoy, who’s counsel you depend on is a great and real loss. But right now and for the foreseeable future we must adapt.
Social Distancing is the last tool we have to slow the growth of new cases and that is the goal. By following the social distancing guidelines you are helping to buy time; time that can be spent building up our medical treatment capacity, and time for our scientists and medical experts to develop treatments and eventually a vaccine. Time to develop tests that will determine who among us has developed the protective antibodies that enable them to reenter the workforce while the vulnerable stay protected. So we have to stay with it for the long haul and not pretend there is a set date when it will be over.
As Dr Anthony Fauci has said: “You don’t make the timeline, the virus makes the timeline.”
The numbers released by NY State today indicate Westchester County now has 5944 cases of which 1253 are new. There are close to 37,258 positive cases in NY State; 84 are White Plains residents. The total number of people tested in Westchester County is 26,288. We are provided with local numbers by the county, they lag behind the state numbers, as we have discussed but we will provide you with the numbers we receive every day as we receive them.
Today was a beautiful day. Spring is here. Get outside and enjoy it. It is important for our physical and mental health. And we can do it while maintaining social distance. And we can say hi to our friends. And we can think about all the simple things that we came to take for granted. And recognize that like the seasons this will pass and we will never take them for granted again.
