Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for Residents May 4, 2020

CWP seal

New York State now has almost 319,000 positive cases. The total number tested in Westchester is over 100,000; the number of people who have tested positive in the county is over 30,000. The county currently estimates the number of active cases in the county to be 5791. There are now 664 Westchester residents hospitalized within the county. Hospitalizations, new cases and active cases have all been declining for some time now. The County Executive stated we are no longer in the plateau phase but on the declining portion of the curve. We have not received any updated numbers from the county regarding local numbers over the past few days. The state recently provided addresses for a large number of positive individuals whose addresses were previously unknown and the county is working to process that information. As soon as we receive it we will share it.

The city held 3 food distributions today where we gave out bags of groceries to hundreds of families. Thank you to the volunteers who came out to help again today at Eastview and Church Street Schools and the Slater Center, some leaving one location when the distribution was complete only to move on to another site. This focus on helping others is beautiful to see and is greatly appreciated. If you would like to be part of it email

We have had wonderful weather the past couple of days and there is more to come. Please remember to maintain social distancing, avoid groups and wear a face covering. Remember to wash your hands. Some of this may begin to sound trite at this point but these are the very actions that have begun to bend the curve. Decisions by the Governor as to which areas of the state may begin to open and to what extent will be based on the data coming out of those regions and our conduct determines the data.

We’ve made a great deal of progress but our work is not done. Stay with it, WP! Our next call is scheduled for Wednesday until then, Remember we are standing together by staying apart!
