Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), Water Main Break & Power Outages Updates for Residents - 8/10/20

Today’s Coronavirus Update: 8/10/2020

Water Main Break:

There was a major water main break downtown at South Lexington and Martine Avenues this afternoon that affected water pressure throughout the City. DPW has now isolated the break and water service is being restored. The water may appear discolored at first. It is safe to drink.

Coronavirus:

The most recent data provided by the county today indicates the cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 1, 897. The county estimates the number of active cases in White Plains to be 23.

Power Outages due to Tropical Storm Isaias:

Approximately, 317 customers are still without power in White Plains. All streets in the City have now been reopened. We continue to be in close contact with Con Ed in order to accelerate the restoration process, which has been completely unacceptable thus far. The city has done everything it can to facilitate restoration of power but of course power restoration can only be done by Con Ed.

The City has opened a cooling center for White Plains residents at the Community Center located at 65 Mitchell Place. The cooling center will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.

If you are without power and need to charge a device, the Library has charging tables set up outside the front entrance that are first-come, first served. These will be available to 7:00 p.m. tonight and all week until power is fully restored.

Our next call is Monday, August 17th.  Until then remember, we are standing together by staying apart.

Today’s Coronavirus Update: 8/10/2020
