Novel Corona (COVID-19) Update for Residents, August 24th, 2020

Seal - gold and blue

The most recent data provided by the county today indicates the cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 1,915. The county estimates the number of active cases in White Plains to be 19.

The State is allowing gyms and fitness centers to reopen as of today. Reduced capacity, masks, air filtration system requirements, contact tracing (sign in/sign out), and screening procedures are all part of the State’s reopening guidance. Gyms must be inspected by the County Health Department either prior to reopening or within 2 weeks of reopening. At the County Health Department’s  request our building inspectors will be working with them to ensure the inspections are complete and performed in a timely fashion. Fitness business owners or managers should contact the County Health Department to schedule an inspection.

Last week, the State also announced that it would allow indoor malls to reopen their food court seating areas, with social distancing requirements. The food courts at both the Galleria and The Westchester Malls have now reopened.

New York State continues to have one of the lowest infection rates in the country. However, the virus is still present in our area. We have had excellent compliance with mask and social distancing requirements in White Plains and we have all benefited from that. All of our efforts as a community have been and will continue to be focused on keeping people healthy until a vaccine becomes available that will protect us all. It is vital that we don’t let down our guard now! The data continues to point to the benefits of wearing masks. Wear your mask!

Please be aware there are several important road closures or restrictions in effect beginning today as a result of various water main and sewer projects. These include:

  • Restricted lanes on Longview Avenue between Maple Avenue and Post Road.
  • Lanes closed to through traffic on Main Street at Lexington Avenue and at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Martine Avenue.
  • Periodic lane closures on Old Orchard Street.
  • Periodic lane closures on South Lexington from Quarropas Street to Dennison Street.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to maintain critical city infrastructure.

Our next call is Monday, August 31st.  Until then remember, we are standing together by staying apart.
