Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for Residents, Sept. 14th, 2020

Seal - gold and blue

The most recent data provided by the county today indicates the cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 1, 959. The county estimates the number of active cases in White Plains to be 34.

It is so important that all of us continue to follow the common sense guidelines of wearing a mask and staying socially distant when in public. As we enter the fall season, which will bring new challenges, we must remember that the virus is still present in our area. Let us continue to focus on prevention to keep as many people healthy as possible until a vaccine is available that will protect us all. We know we can do it because we have been doing it!

It is now also officially flu season and the seasonal flu vaccine is becoming available. I urge everyone to get their flu shot now, as demand for the vaccine is anticipated to be high. While the flu vaccine will not protect you from Covid there are concerns that people who contract both illnesses will have a higher risk of complications. Additionally you will be helping our healthcare workers. Should we see a resurgence in Covid, a flu outbreak would further tax our healthcare resources. If you have been looking for something else you can do to protect the health of yourself and others here it is!

Finally, an important reminder about the census. The deadline to respond to the 2020 census is September 30th.  As we enter these final weeks of the count, I want to urge you, if you have not already done so, to complete your census questionnaire. It’s quick. It’s easy, and it’s safe. Go to 2020Census.gov, enter your address and follow the prompts provided on the screen. The online system is secure. Your information will not be shared.

Our next call will be on Monday, September 21st.  Until then remember, we are standing together by staying apart.
