Coronavirus update for Monday, November 9th, 2020

The cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 2,180.  The County estimates there are currently 106 active cases in White Plains, 11 more than Friday. As predicted by health experts we have been seeing a steady increase in the number of  COVID cases as we move into fall. The County is also seeing an increase in the number of hospitalizations but these remain at manageable levels as of now. We received some positive news today regarding one of the vaccines under study, but it remains absolutely essential that we continue to follow the common sense protocols of wearing masks and social distancing until a vaccine that will protect us all is made available. Mask wearing social distancing will help get us through the months ahead.

On another note, I wanted to inform you of a helpful new city ordinance which allows residents to put their garbage and recycling containers at the curb, after 6pm the night before their scheduled pick-up instead of the morning of.

This Wednesday, November 11th, is Veterans Day. The City will air a virtual Veterans Day ceremony on our local cable channels – Channel 47 for FIOS subscribers and Channel 75 for Optimum subscribers - every hour on the hour all day. I invite you to tune in. The ceremony may also be viewed via the city website. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the veterans in our community for their service to our country.

Our next call will be on Monday, November 16th.  Until then remember, we are standing together by staying apart.
