Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for Residents, November 16, 2020

The COVID-19 infection rate continues to increase, with over 3,500 active cases in Westchester County right now. This is 2,000 more cases than was reported just 2 weeks ago. The cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 2,281.  The County estimates there are currently 157 active cases in White Plains, 28 more than Friday, the last time we were provided with numbers.

Last week the Governor announced several new restrictions. These are:

- Bars and restaurants must now close by 10:00 PM. Delivery and curbside pick-up of food is permissible after 10:00 PM.

- Gyms and fitness centers must close by 10:00 PM.

- Gatherings at private residences, whether indoors or outdoors, must not exceed 10 people.

We have not been advised of any recent “super spreader” events. It appears that the predominant means by which the virus is now spreading is through gatherings of family, friends, and social contacts, in private residences or public establishments, circumstances where people relax and become less careful.

Please take this information into consideration when planning for your Thanksgiving holiday. We all understand the desire to be with friends and family yet the fact that you are related to someone or are long-time friends does not provide you with any protection against the virus. Err on the side of caution.

We continue to receive promising news regarding vaccine trials, confirmation that this pandemic will come to an end, the finish line is in sight. That is a cue to renew our vigilance not let down our guard, so that we can cross that finish line as we have approached all of the challenges we have faced during this terrible year, together.

Our next call will be on Monday, November 23rd.  Until then remember, we are standing together by staying apart.  ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
