Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for Residents March 1, 2021

CITY SEAL - HIGH RES

Today’s City of White Plains Coronavirus Update: 3/1/2021

The data is continuing to show a decline in active COVID cases in White Plains. There are currently an estimated 337 active cases in our City, down 35 from our call last week. Over the past 7 days, we have averaged 25 new cases per day.

New York State has opened a new mass vaccination site at the National Guard Armory in downtown Yonkers.  The site has the capacity to administer 1,000 doses per day. Appointments will be open to all Westchester residents starting this Wednesday, March 3rd. Eligible residents should continue to check the State website, covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov or call the State Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829) to check for openings at this site as well as other state–run vaccination sites.

Veterans who are enrolled with the VA AND who are at least 65 years old, or frontline essential workers, or who have an underlying high-risk medical condition can go to the VA facility in Montrose on Tuesday, March 2nd and Thursday, March 4th from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM to be vaccinated. No appointment necessary.

We have launched a new White Plains COVID Angels project to help White Plains seniors get vaccination appointments. The project is designed to assist seniors who may not be able to navigate the process of making a vaccination appointment. If you are in need of assistance or would like to volunteer to be a White Plains COVID Angel, please email wpangels@whiteplainsny.gov or call (914) 422-1378. Volunteers with various skill sets are needed and welcome! You do not have to commit to volunteering a set number of hours, and working times are flexible.

The one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been given emergency authorization approval by the federal government, which is good news because it will have a positive impact on vaccine supply. As supply increases demand should ease up and vaccination appointment should become easier to find.

Our next call is on Monday, March 8th. Until then remember, we’re standing together by staying apart.
