At the City of White Plains DPW, we take inclement weather and snow removal operations seriously. During snow storms, DPW manpower is maximized by including Highway, Forestry, Sanitation and Water Bureaus to work together, along with Public Safety, to clear roads in order of priority:Primary roads are cleared first, followed by secondary and then tertiary roads. This order helps the City achieve its goal of keeping roads open so that rescue vehicles are able to make their way, in case of emergencies that may arise during inclement weather conditions.
Whether it is day or night, the DPW snow plows must be able to clear the streets of snow safely and effectively. Cars that remain on the street may get plowed in, and may also receive a summons from the Public Safety department.
Private contractors hired for snow removal for private driveways or parking lots, may NOT push snow into or across public streets. Snow should be plowed to the rear of the private property. This law will be enforced by the City of White Plains.
