Shakespeare in the Park Returns Thurs, July 12th, 7pm Turnure Park

Hamlet HVSF

It has fast become a White Plains summertime tradition: Shakespeare in the Park! Back for its fifth year, Shakespeare in the Park’s community following has grown with each performance.

The City of White Plains and ArtsWestchester have once again come together to bring one of Shakespeare’s most renowned plays, Hamlet, to our residents. Hamlet will be presented by Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, the critically acclaimed, professional, non-profit theater company based in Garrison, NY. The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival has established a reputation for lucid, engaging, and highly inventive productions.

Hamlet will be performed on Thursday, July 12th at Turnure Park (on Lake Street). The show begins at 7:00 p.m. and will run for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. This production is free and open to the public. In the event of inclement weather, the play will be moved indoors to Eastview Middle School at 350 Main Street. Parking is available on street and at Eastview Middle School.

There are so many famous lines from Hamlet that we still use today. What better way to experience that famous prose than to see a live performance? Shakespeare’s work comes alive when it is performed on the stage – as it was meant to be. The experience is all together different than just reading the words on the page.  All are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and settle in to enjoy this classic family tragedy. Refreshments will be available for sale during the event.

“I look forward to welcoming back Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival for this year’s Shakespeare in the Park performance ofHamlet,” said White Plains Mayor Tom Roach. “Shakespeare in the Park is always a relaxing and enjoyable summer evening and I encourage everyone ~ Shakespeare lovers and those who are new to Shakespeare ~ to come out and enjoy this event.”

Janet Langsam, CEO of ArtsWestchester added, “The summer season brings with it hundreds of free and affordable arts events for families to enjoy throughout Westchester County. Shakespeare at Turnure Park offers White Plains residents and visitors the chance to watch one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays filled with questions of revenge, life, sanity, love, death and betrayal. The live performance is sure to keep people at the edge of their seats.”

This event has been made possible in part by our primary sponsor ArtsWestchester. Additional sponsors of Shakespeare in the Park include: Peckham Industries, Webster Bank and the White Plains Public Library Foundation.
