By the end of this year, Con Ed will be able to automatically enroll customers in texting. They will send a weather warning and preparation information before the storm arrives. Customers will be able to opt out. Once customers are enrolled, for customers who report their outage to the company, Con Ed will send them system and safety updates, including their estimated time of restoration.
In the meantime, customers can sign up for text alerts today. Here's how: Use your cell phone to text REG to OUTAGE (688243) and follow the prompts. You will need your account number and you will be asked to confirm your zip code. To retrieve your account number, log in to My Account on coned.com or check your bill. This information is also located on our website at coned.com/text.
