COVID-19 is disrupting everyone’s lives. The City of White Plains, like many others, has had to make a number of changes to its events, programs, and services. This news item will be updated regularly and we hope it will serve as a fast and easy way for residents to check on the status of events, programs and services offered by the city. We encourage residents to check this item regularly for the latest information.
City buildings and facilities continue to be cleaned and disinfected throughout the day. We continue to make this a priority. In our parking garages, we have commenced a twice daily sanitizing procedure that includes all pay stations, parking offices, and elevators.
White Plains Public Library
Out of an abundance of caution, the White Plains Public Library will be closed to the public starting Sunday, March 15th. We will be sharing more information about how you can use our virtual services in the days to come. In the meantime, we have a robust e-book and e-audio collection available, as well as many resources for streaming media, including Kanopy, an excellent film collection.
NEW: The building is closed, but the library is open! Check out the redesigned website designed for at home learning! https://whiteplainslibrary.org/Call Us: 914-422-1400 or Text Us: WPPL to 66746, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm.
The White Plains Public Library, along with many other libraries in Westchester, will suspend all intra-library and inter-library loans for the foreseeable future. We believe this is in the best interest of both staff and patrons. This means library patrons will no longer receive items from other libraries and we will no longer send out our items to other libraries. If you have a hold on material owned by White Plains, then it will be held for you like always. However, you may still return your items to any library in the Westchester Library System and borrow materials from any library. We know that this is an important service, and we plan to bring it back as soon as possible.
Recreation & Parks Department
NEW: At this time the White Plains Recreation and Parks Dept offices at 85 Gedney Way and Community Center located at 65 Mitchell Place will not be open to the public. However, staff will be available during business hours to answer calls and emails. Those interested in registration for Spring/Summer programs may do so on-line at www.cityofwhiteplains.com, or by calling the Recreation office at (914) 422-1336 during normal business hours.
Out of concern for the health and well-being of our program participants, staff, and fellow residents the Recreation and Parks Department has decided to cancel all programs and activities effective March 13th until further notice, as a precaution to help limit the spread of coronavirus and support the City of White Plains’ efforts to promote social distancing. We do not take this action lightly and came to this conclusion after careful consideration and discussion with public health experts. We hope this passes very shortly and that activities can begin with a healthy and robust spring season. We wish you safety and good health!
