Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)Update for Residents: March 17, 2020

Today’s Update:  3/17/2020

Dear Residents,

Yesterday I signed an Executive Order, prohibiting the in-premises service of food and drink by restaurants, bars, and other establishments. In addition, movie theaters, gyms and exercise facilities, performance venues,  recreation centers, and spas have been ordered to close. We are seeing excellent compliance, and I want to thank those involved; it can really make a difference.

These measures put in place are meant to slow the increase in new cases so that the number of cases at any time can be met by the health care system.  The governor outlined today the next focus is on the capacity of our hospitals.

Every day we are working and communicating with representatives of the state and county government as well as White Plains Hospital and other organizations to ensure effective measures as we collectively fight this pandemic.

Each day we receive new information on confirmed cases from the State and County Health Departments.  These numbers are increasing as the pandemic moves forward, and due to the fact that testing capacity has ramped up significantly.

Westchester has 380 cases of which 157 are new and the number of positive cases in WP is 10 up 2 since yesterday.

The White Plains Public Library building is closed—however, the library remains open.  Visit our website, whiteplainslibrary.org, It has been revamped to help you find digital and streaming entertainment more easily. Have a question? Text WPPL to 66746 or email librarian@whiteplainslibrary.org. If you don’t have a card or your card has expired, get in touch and we’ll set you up. And sign up for our newsletters https://whiteplainslibrary.org/newsletter/, we’ll be sending out lots of activities to do with children at home.

Internet provider, Altice has offered free access to high-speed broadband connectivity for households with k-12 or college students who do not currently have home internet access.  Call 866-200-9522.  Visit https://www.alticeusa.com

We are updating information daily on our web page and through our social media accounts.

If you are experiencing symptoms associated with coronavirus, please call either the White Plains Hospital Hotline at (914) 681-2900 or the NYS Dept of Health Hotline at 1-888-364-3065. Professional staff will screen you over the phone by asking you a series of questions and assess your need for testing.

As a final note please do whatever you can to limit your interactions with others and maintain social distance.  I have been gratified but I am not surprised by the tremendous positive response of our fellow residents to this challenge.  Keep it up!

Remember we are standing together by staying apart!
