With the extreme heat forecast for this week, it is more important than ever to take steps to stay cool and stay healthy. As temperatures rise, residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity, especially in the heat of the day, reschedule work-outs for early morning or evening hours, drink plenty of water, and avoid drinking too many alcoholic and caffeinated beverages.
White Plains offers the following amenities to help keep you cool:
- The White Plains Public Library, located at 100 Martine Avenue, is open 10:00 am - 9:00 pm Monday - Thursday, and 10:00 am - 6:00 pm on Friday.
- The White Plains Senior Center, located at 65 Mitchell Place, is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. The Senior Center is a great place to relax and get away from the heat.
- Gardella and Kittrell Pools have extended hours for Thursday 7/27 and Friday 7/28 and will be open to the public from 2:30 pm to 8 pm. Gardella Pool is located on Ferris Avenue and may be accessed from the Church Street Elementary School parking lot. Kittrell Pool is located at the corner of Fisher Avenue and Irving Place. The Pool entrance is on Fisher Avenue. Pool passes can be purchased at the Rec/Parks Office, located at 85 Gedney Way, Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, and Saturdays 9:00 am – Noon. Pool season passes cost $35.00 / adult and $25.00 / youth/senior and are valid for one year. Proof of residence must be presented at purchase.
